Parasite Quarantine is the second full length feature release from TR Productions in Finland, prior to this they have released about 30 short films.

It is essentially a gore filled zombie film set in a military facility which has been locked down after some sort of parasite outbreak. To control the outbreak a knock out gas has been used to immobilize the soldiers left on the premises (and the creature) and the doors sealed for a set period. As the privates awaken, disoriented and unsure what has occurred they slowly realize that they are up against a formidable enemy – a flesh eating, parasite ridden zombie which is infecting others at an alarming rate.

While this is a low budget independent film, the film certainly packs a punch. It is well produced and certainly shows some creativity- shadows, darkened rooms, narrow corridors and limited lighting is used to create a very effective mood throughout the film. The soundtrack is a very strong point and combined with the innovative cinematography certainly sustains the film throughout.

The acting is reasonable, certainly for a low budget film, it isn’t flawless but it does the job and when you are dealing with a gore filled splatter, it really isn’t the prime consideration.

Parasite Quarantine is a nostalgic journey for me; it reminds me of the gore filled zombie splatters I so loved during my long lost young in the Eighties which made the explosion of underground video so attractive.

Parasite Quarantine isn’t perfect, far from it, but as low budget film, it shows immense promise. The quality of the filming is good and it sustains the mood and suspense enough to make it successful. What really sells the film is the special effects, with what are clearly limited resources they have created some very effective and powerful gore – the zombies look great and the various killings ranging from bullets to the had to fingers being bitten off and heads pulled are horrifying effective. (My only question is why do intestines always look like sausages !)

All in all, Parasite Quarantine is rather fun and horrific gore ridden Zombie film which has quite a bit going for it.
