BBB01The Lurker in the Lobby:

A Guide to the Cinema of H.P. Lovecraft

Andrew Migliore & John Strysik

Armitage Press 2000

The Lurker in the Lobby is a guide to films and television shows based on and inspired by famous “outsider” author H. P. Lovecraft, arguably the most influential horror writer of the 20th century.

It gives extensive coverage to major and minor works from the earliest period through to its publication date in 2000.

H. P. Lovecraft never believed his dark visions could be adapted for the screen and was generally skeptical about the value of cinema altogether. However as years progressed his works has been adapted for both TV and cinema with varying degrees of success. Many great films have been produced from his gothic dreams as well as some very low grade exploitation classics, ranging from the campy Dunwich Horror to the wild gore of The Re-Animator series.

Of course, Hollywood isn't the only place to make a Lovecraft movie and included are essays by more than fifteen amateur and student film-makers exploring the depths of their passion for these Lovecraf and the hard realities of low budget film-making.

This is a beautifully produced volume with colour covers, countless still and lots of movie posters as well, as an added bonus included is the original illustrated designs for the never produced Shadow Over Innsmouth.
