Five Sound Installations
Michael J Schumacher

Five
Sound Installations is a superb work of experimental music, indeed it represents
a new ways of exploring music and sound since it is not “precorded” but is
actually generated live by your computer (Windows or Mac). It contains five
quite unique sound compositions generated in real time by a computer algorithm.
The
works are: Room Piece Twenty-four, Noema, Steiner Suite, Unintending and Scene.
This
is a unique way to explore the musical work of Schumacher, each time you play a
track, it is a different it is uniquely generated. It takes a while for the
program to be loaded on your computer but then you can experience the live
music of each track produced in real time.
The
tracks all have different “programming” and generate very different
experiences, 'Room Piece Twenty-four' for example, has a light gliding sort
which sort of floats around the room, while the Steiner Suite is more rhythmic
with quite seductive pipe music.
The
pieces continue to play until you turn off your computer and hence over a long
period change and transform and offer different experiences of each track. What
is interesting is you can leave these to play over a long period and literally
generate your own home sound environment, in real time, using your computer.
This is certainly a fascinating and innovate product.
It
comes on a doublesided DVD-Rom (for Windows or the Mac), with a detailed
descriptive booklet.
