Cannibal
Flesh Riot is a black comedy about unusual friendships, culinary tastes and the
repercussions for feasting on the dead. It is an extremely stylish modem film
that mixes verbal wit, stop motion and B-Horror from the ‘50s Drive-in era.
Stash and
Hub, two redneck ghouls, take a journey through an ancient graveyard to do what
ghouls have done for centuries: grave defiling, necrophilia and some cannibalism.
On their midnight walk, they rant and rave about their idiosyncrasies. But this
morbid journey to feast on the dead does not quite go as planned. Stash and Hub
have raided and desecrated the resting place of the dead just one too many
times and the dead do not take lightly being fed on for centuries.
This film
is a fascinating mixture of music, horror comics, quirky philosophy and a
barnyard hoedown. It has the flavor of a 1950's B film mixed with German
Expressionism, stop motion effects and that something special that makes it
stand out. The acting is good, the
dialogue is witty and the script is solid, the moody use of sound effects is
superb.
Gris Grimly
is rather a unique artist, whose dark take on old tales are well known in
print. He has decided to move into the director’s seat with this highly
original short which does not fail to please. When you consider this was a film
made with less than $6000 it really does show what can be done with some
inspiration and a lot of creativity.
All in all
this is a very impressive and different sort of horror short and will more that
impress any lover of Indie horror.
