Marc Almond is a unique cultural and musical icon. His startling entrance into the world of music was marked by the daring “Tainted Love” of Soft Cell which was quite “in your face” for the day when homosexuality was still somewhat hush hush, especially considering his effete look and flamboyant stage presence. He has always worked to push himself into new territories and musical forms and this has continued to his present day exploration of all manner of music from folk ballads to torch songs. He is never simply defined and easily moves between all musical genres deliberately adapting them to his own unique style and presentation. In many ways Almond is a complete performance, while many may critique his voice, he knows his limitations and is a complete package – music, songs, performance and emotion. It is too simple to try and reduce him to one medium alone. He has never been a one hit wonder regardless of the success of Soft Cell and this is not diminishing their success or significance.

In this superb offering we get both a CD and DVD release of a show that occurred in Brussels in 2000. He is accompanied by a key board player, a guitarist and some backing tracks and does wonders. This a great “ best of” presentation, offering tracks from a wide range of albums and styles. It is quite a diverse presentation from early dance type tracks to sleazy cabaret and torch songs. A marvellous selection.

The audio CD is clear and excellent, but the DVD is marvellous, the Dolby Digital 5.1 makes you feel like you are right at the show, it also comes with an interview, biography and Discography. It is nicely presented in a dual disc case with a booklet
