Documentary
Magazine is published by the International Documentary Association and is a
high quality quarterly magazine of around 100 pages plus. Every issue offers
regular features including Docs on Screen, Festival Wrap Up, Member News, Doc
Tech, Documentary News Brief and Awards Round Up.
There
is a good balance between reviews of documentaries (both major releases and
lesser known film festival titles) and technical articles covering both the “how
to” of documentary filmmaking and studies of individual filmmakers. Many of the
issues also have a specific focus ranging from documentaries on the campaign
trail (Fall 2008) to The Bourne Legacy focusing on the work of St.Claire Bourne
who died in December 2007.
The
online site for the International Documentary Association is exceptional offering
lots of news, sample articles, video interviews, trailers and “how to”
tutorials.
